Movies I’ve Watched:
My Best Friend’s Exorcism (2022): This movie doesn’t know what it wants to be. There’s a pretty good idea in here but the movie abandons it for some reason. Also, the budget is low.
Bottoms (2023): We began this in November and then circumstances intervened. We finally finished it. It’s very funny.
Khane-ye doust kodjast? (1987): An extremely well-executed film about a kid trying to return his friend’s school notebook. That description might sound boring to you but there’s a reason this one of the most acclaimed films of the 1980s.
Road House (1989): Somehow I had never seen this. Should have been a parody or satire.
TV I’m Watching:
March Madness: If it seems like I’ve been watching fewer movies this month well, there’s a reason. This remains the greatest sports tournament in the world. And just a hint for newbies: the first four days are the best, not the Final Four. If you miss the Round of 64 and the Round of 32 and watch the Final Four, you’re not really watching March Madness.
Peep Show (2003): I’ve restarted Peep Show, a show I loved the first season of, like 10+ years ago, but had never gotten around to finishing. I must say, my tolerance for cringe has significantly reduced so I don’t know if I’ll go through with the remaining seasons. Should I?
Rick and Morty (2013): Nearly finished the first season.
Taskmaster: Finished the first season of Australia and back to watching the original show’s latest season.
Top Boy (2011): So a big complaint about Netflix here. If you want to start this show about London drug dealers, you need to make sure you start with Top Boy: Summerhouse, which is what you would name a sequel. But it’s the original show! I was thinking the show looked incredible for 2011 and then I fortunately read a brief plot summary of the show and realized I was watching season 3 instead of season 1. This shouldn’t be hard.
Top Chef: After talking about watching both recent American and Canadian seasons but never actually watching them, we are finally watching the latest American season. At this point, I have no idea which seasons I’ve watched and missed, going by numbers rather than cast. Fortunately, my completist streak doesn’t apply to reality TV for some reason so that doesn’t make me as crazy as it would if this was a fictional show.
TheAtre!:
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Neptune Theatre production): For the first time in forever, Jenn and I went to see a play. I saw the movie like 20 years ago but I had never seen the whole thing, and certainly not live. I’m glad I did.
What I’m Listening to:
I got a little tired of listening to my cousin’s best music lists, I just needed a break. So I’ve been listening to Nick Cave’s entire discography for the last week or so. Though I think most of us are agreed that The Boatman’s Call is the closest he has to a “perfect” album, I still think Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus is my favourite. Sure, that’s probably because it was the first album of his I' heard, but it probably makes me the most happy of all of them.
